Cork juvenile players have again done us proud, emerging as winners and/or runners-up in ten of the fifteen finals at the Munster Championships held today in Ennis.

Well done to all who took part in the finals, and many thanks to Ennis Badminton Club for hosting this event and providing everyone with a lovely lunch.

It was a great day of badminton for Munster teams at the Badminton Ireland Interprovincials last weekend. The U13 and U15 teams came so close with some super performances from the players. Both teams finished with a total of 9 points to finish in 3rd place, only narrowly missing out on silver medals by one point and on gold by 2 points!! Ulster were runners-up in the U13 and U15 with 10 points and Leinster took both the U13 and U15 titles by finishing on 11 points. Congratulations to all the managers, coaches, parents and players!!!

Cork was well represented on the U13 team by Brian O’Mahony (St. Marys), Tomàs Howard (Dromtarriffe), Cathal O’Donoghue (Banteer), Cal Shine (Banteer), Ronan Quirke (Banteer), Eadaoin Coughlan (Carrigaline). Cian O’Mahony (St. Marys), Conor Murphy (Banteer) and Grace Lane (Banteer) lined out for the U 15 team while Sean Howard (Dromtarriffe) and Laura Murphy (Banteer) were members of the U17 team.

Good luck to the Irish U13 and U17 teams competing at the Circuito Nacional Sub 15-Sub 19, a Federación Española de Bádminton 5* category event, at Granollers (Barcelona), Catalunya, Spain this weekend 16-17th February 2013.  Cork County Juvenile Secretary Wendy O’Mahony and Chairman Oliver Deady were delighted to present a cheque from the Cork County Badminton Association to the Irish U13 team members Brian O’Mahony (St. Marys) and Tomàs Howard (Dromtariffe) to support their participation in this event.

Cork juveniles continued the County’s winning streak with excellent results at the Munster Inter County Round 2 held on Sun Feb 3rd at the Sports Arena in U.L. Over 150 juveniles on 18 teams representing Cork, Clare, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford took part at U11, U13, U15 and U17 age groups.

23/01/13  Once again, Cork juveniles have done us proud!
Almost 50 Cork players participated in the Munster U13 closed Div 1 and Div 2 last Sunday 20th February in UL, Limerick.  All div 2 finals were played on the day while Div 1 finals will take place in Clare on March 29th.  Cork players dominated both events with an impressive display in every semi-final and final match on the day.  Well done to all who took part and to those who came back with medals!

After 4 squad sessions with 19 talented U13s the selectors have picked the 8 players to travel to Barcelona, Spain from 15th February to 17th February 2013. Included in the Irish U13 team for the Catalan Junior Open are Brian O’Mahony (St. Marys) and Tomàs Howard (Dromtariffe).

Congratulations and best wishes to Brian and Tomàs – it has taken them a lot of time, effort and commitment to reach this goal. Congratulations also and thanks to their parents for their invaluable support and encouragement.

On January 3rd Cork juveniles kick started the new year with a visit to UL to take part in the newly formed competition called the South West Challenge. Over 70 players from Cork, Clare and Connaught took part in three mixed competitions, U13, U15 and U17.

The U13 team ran out comprehensive winners, beating both Clare and Connaught to take the South West challenge title.

The U15 team took on Clare first. Both teams were level going into the two mixed games, but Cork ran out eventual winners after some closely fought sets. Cork took on Connaught next where the U15 team played some tough 3 set matches. Eventually Connaught won by one game, giving Connaught the first U15 South West Challenge title.

Cork juvenile badminton held its first U18 fun day in Bishopstown. Over 20 players from all around the county took part in this event. All players enjoyed an action packed afternoon. Many thanks to Carmel and Ciara for organising this day.

CCBA are having an U18 Badminton Fun Day in Bishopstown at 1pm on 29th of December 2012 to give our older teens a chance to meet outside of their competitive League and play with and against kids from other clubs. Both divisions welcome. Subject to entries we hope to play doubles and mixed so plenty games to be had by all. Entry Fee: €10 for the day. Cork players did well at the Munster U11 Open held on Dec 2nd in U.L. with 81 entries. Zoe O’Herlihy (Carrigaline) teamed up with Alexander Troy (Ennis) to win the Girls Doubles over Kate Foley (Banteer) & Kaitlyn Kelleher (Banteer). Kate also won the Girls Plate, defeating Roisin Moore (Ennis). Players from Kilshannig contested the finals in the Boys Plate with Arnuld Dumoulin defeating Glen Singleton, and Cork also managed a footprint on the Boys Doubles, with Rory Donnelly (Carrigaline) and Daniel O’Meara (Killaloe) coming second to the Kerry pair Dylan Geaney and Sean Kennedy. Congratulations to all Cork County juvenile players!!
The Munster Juvenile Inter-County Championships were held in the Sports Arena in UL on Sunday 25th Nov. 18 teams from all over Munster competed on the 12 courts, with 180 participants. Round 2 will take place in Feb 2013 with a similar entry. For a tournament that only started four years ago it is now one of the biggest one day juvenile badminton events in the country. There were four age groups: Under 11, 13, 15 and 17.

Cork were runners-up in the U11 competition, contested by teams from Cork, Clare, Kerry and Waterford. The winners of the round robin event were Kerry who took their first Juvenile Inter-County Title at any level. The Cork team included E.Bernard, R.Donnelly, K.Foley, M.Parbrook, D.McAllister, R.O’Mahony, Z.O’Herlihy, K.Mellerick, E.Mellerick and P.Weathers.

In both the U13 and U15 competitions the teams were Cork, Clare, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford. The U13 Cork team – R.Quirke, C.Shine, H.Belton, A.Coughlan, C O’Donoghue, F.Toebes, A.Barry, A.Bernard, C.O’Flynn, H.Buckley – were the winners with Clare in runner-up spot. The two counties swap places on the podium of the U15 competition, with Cork second this time. 30/10/12  Congratulations to Brian O’Mahony, St. Mary’s Dunmanway & Tomas Howard, Dromtarriffe who defeated Adam McAllister, Connaught & Kyle Magee, Ulster in the final of the Ulster U13 Juvenile Open which was held in Lisburn Rackets Club near Belfast last week-end. The boys won the match in great style taking the 1st set 21-19. They lost the 2nd set 21-19 but came back strongly again in the 3rd winning by 21-16. This was a fantastic achievement by the Cork & Munster pairing as this was an Irish Ranking Tournament so well done to both players.
